Welcome

Mike Firth

The 2006 Convention was not our best.

Barry Cryer got us off to a great start and Rene Carayol was excellent. Our headliner, ex President George Bush Snr made a tremendous impression on our delegates with an hour of anecdotes, humour and an overview of world affairs. A truly statesman like performance. In between the speakers were average to poor. My fault – I booked them.

Needless to say I will be determined to get it absolutely right in 2007.

The weather was especially kind to us and the Pimms tent took a hammering!

Our Lead Sponsor, Bank of Scotland Corporate, built what was probably the best exhibition stand we have ever seen, with acrobats dangling from the roof. It was fantastic!

Thanks also to Cobbetts , Yorkshire Forward and all of our Sponsors.

Bartletts are our Insurers – they give us good advice and cover for all eventualities. Sorry we forgot to give them a mention in the day programme.

We ended the day with our traditional Black Tie dinner at Harewood House. Sponsored by the Highstone Group.

A wonderful evening in a most splendid setting – We even sang “Happy Birthday Mr President“ to our honoured guest. Not quite as memorable as the Marilyn Monroe / JFK version, but close!

So, to conclude, another most enjoyable convention but could do better and we will!

Hope to see you on 8th June 2007.
